Yuri webcomics are common online. I noted this in the first part of this series which centered on Webtoons such as The Pirate and the Princess, My Roommate Is a Vampire, My Dragon Girlfriend, Eldritch Darling, Nevermore, Big Cats, Everyday by Day, My Secret Lesbian Comics, Apollonia, and The World’s Strongest Guild Receptionist.
This post will focus on a sci-fi Western (Apollonia), young adult romance (Love and Other Wicked Things, Reveal Out!, The Adventurer’s Wife), mermaid romance (Mermaid Huntress), young adult fantasy (Diamond Dive), and mature fantasy romance (Don’t Look at the Sky) stories. As a warning, this post will discuss murder, blood, violence, and other mature topics. This is the second post of three. The last post covered list items 12-20. This post covers items 5-11. The next one will cover list items 1-4.
11. Apollonia on Webtoons Canvas and Tapas

This young adult action sci-fi Western webcomic, made by a small team, centers around a cyborg woman named Molly Holiday who lives on a prison planet, Pergatoire, and meets a bisexual bounty hunter named Tess Seguín. Soon she is drawn to her crew, the Red Horns. They work together to put down those they see as scum, collect bounties, and travel the planet on a space train/transport named The Apollonia. Also published on Tapas, this webcomic begins with Molly moved, at gunpoint, into a prison coffin, sentenced to a prison planet, and soon changing into a new outfit. The comic is filled with Western slang. She soon comes across Tess, who is playing guitar. Tess saves her from an awful man, then teases her, leading to anger from Tess. Another character even says they are acting like “lovers.”
As the comic goes on, Molly and Tess get closer. She saves Tess from villains, using her sharp shooting skills. Later, Tess introduces her to the aforementioned Red Horns, like the boss, Jericho “Sandman” Sanders, the crew doctor named Doc, the crew cook named Cookie, and the twin engineers (Sammy and Tammy). They use the Apollonia as their headquarters. She is quickly welcomed to the crew, with Tess vouching for her. Even so, it takes time for her to fully open up. Molly tries to strike up friendships with Doc, Cookie, and the twins, who give her the specs on her guns. She is warned to not ask anyone about their past, as old scars will re-surface.
It is later revealed that the planet’s surface is divided into six gangs and how the planet got the way it did. The comic’s author, War Bunny, noted inspirations from Black Lagoon, RWBY (particularly Yang Xiao Long), Legend of Korra, and Western films, and noted the attractiveness of characters like Tess. She implied that the comic could become a Webtoons Original in the future. Some time after, Molly proves herself after she kills a gang leader who humiliated Tess. Other episodes of the comic involve murder, beastkin, fighting, and Tess having a nightmare about when she lost an eye. Molly and Tess get romantically closer, including both women kissing one another in episode 43 (Tess kisses Molly). There’s further shootouts, family origins, taking down a tank, dancing, and the introduction of a cool new character. Most recently, Molly was placed in mortal danger by her aunt.
10. Love and Other Wicked Things on Webtoons Originals

In the town of Oakriver, Rhia Greenbrook struggles with divination. She has always been involved in traditions of the secret, and magical, world she’s a part of. Her world, of course, is thrown upside down when Valerie, a cute, and bold, fire witch, who is great at divination, comes to town. She wants to find out about her mother and why she disappeared. Soon their fates are interlinked, with a mysterious, and dark, presence over the town. Rhia has to use her full magical ability to save her town, and the girl she loved. Sadly, this series will not continue next year, just when it was getting good. This is an unfortunate trend for Webtoons Originals webcomics.
This young adult romance is cute, has colorful art, and has a compelling story. Not only does it involve girls in love with one another, but the story itself pulls you in, making it an utter shame that it is ending this year. There’s characters like Quinn, who realizes he has magical abilities, but struggles with these new abilities. I like how this webcomic develops the relationship between Rhia and Valerie, making it natural, but also showing how much they care about one another. It seems believable, even with misunderstandings between each of them. This comic shines above the others due its mix of romance, mystery, and diversity, with Rhia’s family consisting entirely of Black characters.
Unlike some other webcomics, Love & Other Wicked Things has three co-authors. One of them, Thabfu, is currently the author of an 18+ yuri webcomic, entitled The Forbidden Lust of a Frigid Girl, also on Webtoons. She previously co-wrote a new comic adaptation of the Peter Pan story with several other authors entitled The Wendybird, which had some queer characters, from what I recall. Another author of Love and Other Wicked Things, Philline Harms, is a queer young adult novel writer. She published the original version of the story, on another online fiction site, Wattpad, and a printed adaptation. The final author, Dominique Riley, is a fluent Spanish speaking writer. She likes to tell stories, according to her Webtoon profile, which feature “people of color who encounter worlds greater than they can imagine.”
9. Reveal Out! on Webtoons Originals

The 53-episode run of this young adult romantic comic begins in a depressing place. Eeden Jung is suffering as an artist and has crushing student loan debt. She leaves a rose on the grave of Ms. Sunny and is evicted. She blames her dad from keeping her from dating Bell, who she is crushing on. Not long after, she tells off Bell. After she says she wants to go back in time, she finds herself age 18 again, when she started art school. With the chance to get everything right, she declares she is super gay, and reveals to Ms. Sunny, her beloved teacher, that she traveled from the future. The comic stands out for its themes, characters, and plotlines.
Surely, there’s homophobia, transphobia, and obvious viewer discretion. The comic is by an artist named Treasure, who is assisted by comic creator Hinahina Gray, artist Caribo, and many others. In later issues, the roommate of Bell, named Rose, is introduced. She quickly realizes she is bisexual. Eeden is also helped by her friend Gabe. As the comic goes on, Eeden, Bell, Rose, and Gabe work together on a mural. Eeden deals with her homophobic father and becomes a teacher’s assistant. She has to deal with Hayley who dated Bell in the “present”/”original” world. Rose and Eeden become closer to one another, and relationships develop. The comic also centers on the themes of being true to yourself, accepting others, and not hiding any part of yourself, which remains relevant today.
Similar to other yuri webcomics which have gone into originals, such as Night Owls & Summer Skies, I felt that Reveal Out! was far too rushed at the end and should have been longer. Perhaps this is an issue with Webtoons Originals since The Wendybird was reportedly cancelled. The same happened with Night Owls & Summer Skies too. Some said that the series was review bombed, likely by homophobic people. That could have led to the series ending in the way it did. In my view, the ending of Reveal Out! was too quick. The comic was leading to something. It wrapped up almost too quickly with an ending which added in a ringer: that Gabe had magical powers and sent Eeden back in time. This was added without much explanation, creating more questions than answers. Hopefully it returns in some form in the future.
8. Mermaid Huntress on Webtoons Canvas and Tapas

Many years ago, I reviewed this comic, which Tiana Warner wrote and April Pierce illustrated, under its former name, Ice Massacre. The comic tells the story of Meela, who must to decide whether she will save the mermaid she’d fallen in love with (Lysithea), or her people. She goes on a voyage with other mostly brown-skinned women of Eriana Kwai, with an open question as to whether she can overcome these feelings, or not. This enemies-to-lovers story is about badass mermaids and warrior women. Meela wants to avenge the death of her brother. Lysithea trains to battle against the humans. Dani, a human rival of Meela, wants to prove herself. A focus on mermaids is common, but making it a girls love story is unique. Many mermaid stories have mermaids preying on women (or men) rather than falling in love with them.
The comic itself is made by a small team. Warner’s previous works have centered not only on LGBTQ themes and protagonists, including paranormal and supernatural themes, but mermaids as well. Pierce, on the other hand, is lead writer of Prince and Swan, a fantasy/fairy-tale/magic webcomic. Apart from the purchase of physical copies on online platforms, the webcomic can be supported on Patreon. This forbidden romance follows other previous comics about mermaids on Webtoons, whether the enjoyable since-ended comic, Swimming Lessons For A Mermaid, or Sapphire’s exciting webcomic, The Pirate and the Princess.
Mermaids have also appeared in animated series, such as Mermista, a bisexual water princess who can transform into a mermaid, in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, or all the protagonists of High Guardian Spice. They change into mermaids in the 11th episode, so they can work with the mermaid, Coral. Additionally, merpeople are an important part of other animated series, such as Kizazi Moto‘s seventh episode/film, entitled “Hatima,” Disenchantment (through the character Mora), and Tokyo Mew Mew New (Lettuce who can sometimes be a mermaid). This webcomic differs from other series with underwater societies like Star Wars: Clone Wars, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Atlantis: Milo’s Return, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and Young Justice. That is because most of the webcomic’s story, so far, has taken place above, either on the ships, or land, rather than below the water.
7. The Adventurer’s Wife on Webtoons Canvas

This webcomic follows the story of one adventurer and her wife. The latter loves romance novels and being with the woman she loves. This lighthearted girls-love story, with updates every other week, falls squarely into the slice-of-life and young adult romance genres. It began in September 2024. The prologue introduced Ira, a catgirl, and her wife, the adventurer, Veraya Rai (henceforth called “Vera”), as they move into a new place. They tease one another, kiss, and imagine what’s ahead. Just then, it is revealed that prologue was a flashback. Their kids, Veraya (named after her mom) and Zelda Rai, are introduced. Veraya says they are doing “kissy stuff,” embarrassing them both, especially after Veraya says she will tattle to Uncle Pazu about it. Ira is later shown reading a spicy yuri story about a character named “Lady Raven.” Vera becomes jealous. Kiri has an important role as a supportive friend of Ira.
As the comic continues, Vera even cosplays as Lady Raven, exciting Ira even more. At another point, she invites her to a discussion about the Lady Raven story with her friends (Tian and Mia). She becomes engaged about the story’s faults. Ira is devastated when she misses a date with Vera because she is fighting a dragon, although they later get their date together. They both daydream and dance with one another before Ira’s high heel breaks. Ira has a day job. She works at a bookstore named Book Nook, a location shown a few times during the series. She is crestfallen when she learns that Lady Raven may be ending, putting her in a funk that Vera can’t get her out of until she wears the Lady Raven hat. Following this, Ira shares the hard truth: a series will be cancelled if the publisher can’t make enough money.
She is terrified when it is revealed that one of her kids found her old diary. It’s filled with her embarrassing thoughts. Her friends Tian and Mia encourage her to write fan fiction, which one calls it a “playground for the imagination.” They go to the old town library, bustling with patrons, which has a fan fiction community board (organized like Archives of Our Own), with hopes she can get story ideas, exciting Ira more. Vera encourages her. She gets writer’s block and later gets past it. Her fic becomes very popular. More recent issues of the comic have involved backstory of their love and putting spice back into their relationship. This comic’s author, a Chinese-Cambodian 28-year-old named Jenn Rostowsky, is a lesbian and colorist for Love & Other Wicked Things, another girl’s love webcomic (no. 11 on my list) on Webtoons. She authored a recently-completed sweet romantic drama entitled Line by Line.
6. Don’t Look at the Sky on Webtoons Canvas

In June 2021, this comic, by Artemiz, started. She is an author who wrote a Brazilian version of the comic (in Portuguese) and a newer comic, The Perfect Nerd. In the prologue of Don’t Look at the Sky, a mysterious draconian figure named Wangari follows someone named Megan to the human world, changing her appearance to look more human, as she remembers back to her past. She soon finds herself in the world with humans, but Megan is nowhere to be found. The second character, Helena “Pinky,” the other protagonist, is a 22-year-old archaeologist student, is introduced. Her ex-boyfriend, Lucas, is annoying her. She soon covers for her friend at the archive. She is attacked by a masked assailant who pulls out a gun and makes her strip. At the last second, Wangari appears, seemingly out of nowhere, and saves her. The archive becomes not only a place of violence, but a place of blossoming love.
As the comic continues, the police take away the sexual predator who tried to sexually assault her. She attempts to learn more about draconians. She hides the truth of what happened from her friends. Wangari comes close anyway, believing that Pinky revealed the truth, when she actually didn’t. In fact, Pinky begins crushing on her, even wanting to touch her head horns. They get closer to one another, with Pinky blushing all the time, especially after Wangari exits the shower stark naked, asking for clothes that are fireproof (since she can wield fire). Wangari decides to live with her. They seal a contract, beginning the human arc.
Afterward, Pinky becomes angry for Wangari sort of forcing the contract on her. There are flashbacks showing Wangari training to join the Celestial Army and the violence that the Celestials inflicted. They begin peacefully living together, with Wangari doing housework. An assailant comes to attack Pinky, who turns out to be Megan. Helena teaches Wangari how to use a cell phone and she goes on dates with her. The plan by Megan, Wangari, and Pinky to take an artifact, ends up being a trap. Even so, Wangari saves a kid from a Celestial. Wangari and Pink kiss in episodes 52 and 62, fight, have sex, and make up. In more recent issues, it is revealed that Helena is part Celestial (her mother is), causing Wangari and Helena to split apart, until Wangari realizes she messed up.
5. Diamond Dive on Webtoons Canvas

This young adult fantasy series is among the many girl’s love series on Webtoons, sharing some similarities with other comics. It was even on Glow Art, a visual art site shutting down earlier this year under strange circumstances. The story and art are by Mamdaka, a Hungarian artist known for a short series named Her Name is Sunny, and a “light version” of this comic. The comic began in mid-June 2019 and is ongoing. It began with some witches conducting a spell. A mysterious character saw it as a way out of his sort-of prison. Karta Kloss is soon introduced as a pink-haired girl going through a lot (her parents divorce, garage band ending, not getting into a university). She somehow gets into Montgomery University of Witchcraft, a magic school.
Karla (i.e. Pinkie) makes friends with her roommates, Kelpie Abott and River Styxx. She meets a woman named Bailey Montgomery at the library, acts all haughty, and develops a crush on her. She uses magic when she shouldn’t in an attempt to impress her. Instead, she ends up in a sticky situation which Bailey helps her out of, even carrying her back to her room. She learns she has the ability to “dream dive” and asks Bailey out on a date, which she agrees to. She struggles with school. Sometime later, she enlists her friends (Anne, Harley, Kelpie, and River) in a scheme to get a second date with Bailey, the school heiress. She plays it safe since she doesn’t want her mom to hurt her. Ultimately, she ends up agreeing to duel her in order to prove she is worthy enough to date her.
Before that, they have a nice time in a festival together. River helps her with her magic and Bailey tells her about familiars. She collapses during the ritual due to a demon attacking her. She begins dream diving, learning she can bring one item at a time out of a dream. Some time after, Karta challenges her to a duel, deals with a fake Bailey, and saves the real Bailey, then learns about her first love, Nellie. They have the duel. Karta somehow wins, thanks to help from Yvonne, causing Karta and Bailey to go to the Yule Ball together and begin dating. I don’t know what will happen in the later parts of this comic (four seasons were originally planned, which was later changed to three seasons, then two), but I look forward to what Mamdaka comes up with.
